For the second year running Deramores have partnered with the Royal British Legion to bring crochet and knitting communities together to raise money for the poppy appeal – and I felt quite honoured to be asked again to design some new poppy patterns for them.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November to conincide with Remembrance Sunday. This year, when the charity celebrates its centenary, Deramores are releasing a series of knit and crochet poppy themed patterns, to support serving and ex-serving personnel, and their families – and there are four new crocheted ones from me.
The first one is for a bouquet of poppies that could be a lovely heartfelt way to commemorate Remembrance as a centrepiece for a shelf or table in your home.

The Bouquet of Poppies pattern is not available separately only as part of a kit which comes with; Deramores Studio DK yarn, wire and the pattern. All you would need is a a 3mm hook, a glue gun, craft pliers, scissors and a yarn needle. I have included some step by step photos in the pattern for those of you that are unfamiliar with crocheting around wire – it’s a bit fiddly at first but when you hit your stride I think you’ll be fine.
The next design is for a set of two Poppy Mug Cosies, perfect for keeping your cuppa nice and warm and stop your fingers from burning on those takeaway coffee cups!

There are two designs to choose from (both included in the pattern); field of poppies or large traditional poppy. Both fit very nicely around my Dear Ewe mugs, but I’ve also included instructions on how you can adjust the height and diameter of the cosies to fit around different sized cups.
The pattern is available as just the pattern on it’s own or as a craft kit with everything you need to make both cosies in the Poppy Mug Cosy Set.

Finally I’ve designed a Poppy Wreath decorated with the traditional red poppy. You could hang it in your home or on your door for Remembrance or as an autumnal wreath.
The Poppy Wreath is not available separately only as part of a kit which comes with; Deramores Studio DK yarn, 30mm wooden wreath and the pattern. In addition to the items in the kit you would need a a 3mm hook, a glue gun, scissors and a yarn needle and some red ribbon or hessian ribbon.

So if you are a crafter you can help support The Royal British Legion this year by creating any one of the endorsed Deramores poppy digital patterns or kits. With every purchase of a poppy kit, Deramores will donate 10% of the RRP to the Royal British Legion to support the Armed Forces community, and for the purchase of any digital poppy patterns, they will donate 50% of the RRP.
As well as these new patterns you can also pick up my original poppy pattern or kit too.
Please share pictures of your poppies with on socials using the hashtag #DeramoresPoppy and #kcacouk so we can share your wonderful work.
Until next time folks! Happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on my friends xx
