I’m super excited to be joining forces again with the lovely and talented yarn dyer Kitey, aka The Yarn Whisperer, to bring you a brand new summer make-along.

This is our SIXTH collaboration in our make-along series (you can see a round up of all CALs and MALs here) and as always offers a chance to use some wonderful hand-dyed yarn combined with a fun summery crochet project.

Imagine you are sitting on a deck chair at the beach; you are feeling that joyous light-hearted feeling of a being on holiday; no work, just time to recline and relax. The waves are crashing against the shore and you can hear the sounds of chatter and laughter in the distance as the sun softly warms your face.

You are enjoying the anticipation of someone bringing you your favourite ice-cream but while you wait you decide to open up your project bag to start that new WIP. There is a light breeze that gently moves your yarn as you take out the ball and your hook and you hear the call of a seagull as it flies by overhead…

Join us as we take part in the Graceful Gull Make Along!

If you are not sure what a MAL is, you can read more on the MAL landing page here, but Kitey and I have actually had this planned since last years Christmas collab (and we may have already planned more projects into 2024 – we do get a bit over excited when we start talking!)

This time around we are going to be making a shawlette, which I’m not going to show you yet, and I’m not going to give away too much about the project, but what I will say is that I really, really love everything about it and can’t wait to share it with you!

An exclusive pattern and kit are being created for this extra special MAL. Each kit will include the following super washed merino 4ply (Sock weight) yarn;

  • 1x 100g / 425m skein of natural
  • 2x 50g / 212m skeins of two exclusive hand-dyed colourways
  • 1 x 20g / 85m of another exclusive hand-dyed colourway
  • A digital copy of the pattern
  • A few extra treats, including an EXCLUSIVE @mrsgmakes stitch marker, just for good measure!

Happy MAL day | Peppermint Pageant starts today!

Happy MAL day folks!

I hope you are enjoying a restful festive period and are now ready for a bit of hooky time.

All the folks that ordered the exclusive Peppermint Pageant MAL kit should have already received the gorgeous Yarn Whisperer yarn (plus fab extras), and the pattern went out to everyone a few days ago (from Kitey – so maybe check your junk mail if the pattern doesn’t seem to have appeared). So we should be all ready to begin!

The exclusive colourway that Kitey has come up with this time was inspired by Christmas! It contains a 50g skein of a fabulously rich tonal minty green that you would see in peppermints and in traditional fir trees. Then alongside that skein was a 50g skein of a beautiful semi-solid rich red – the unique variations in each make them just so special to work with.

These colours have been married up with a hank of natural yarn, because it’s beautiful in it’s own right, it’s actually one of my favourite things – to see natural yarn along side a hand dyed version as the colours really pop! And the merino Aran weight yarn I think is my new yarn crush – such a delight to crochet with!

And in amongst the kit there is THE MOST FABULOUS stitch marker, wooden button and pencil from Mrs G! So a little known fact about me is that I have a thing about stationery, I actually I do all my pattern writing in pencil, so I loved the addition of the engraved pencil, what a lovely reminder of the MAL each time I use it.

I also have a thing about things made in wood, which the little Christmas button was made from, I love the fact it has the date engraved on it to mark the project date. And of course the metal disc snowflake stitch marker was a perfect match for the project and is so fab and functional as all Mrs G’s stitch markers are (I have quite the collection).

For the full information about this particular MAL you can find all the details here (or via the top menu of this blog under the tab ‘CALS AND MALS’). But generally the idea is that the MAL is a relaxed event designed to be a lovely betwixtmas project – this time round we are making a Christmas stocking.

The Make Along will run from today (Monday 26 December 2022) until Thursday 26 January 2022 giving everyone plenty of time to make the pattern during the festive season and new year. You can of course start the pattern at anytime you wish, this deadline is just there for those that like to have one.

There will be support for the pattern as usual in my Facebook group; the KCACO-UK Crochet Community Group and in Kitey’s Virtual Stitch-n-B*tch zoom sessions – see full details on Kitey’s Insta page

The Dragonfly River Make-Along is Here!

Happy MAL day folks!

It’s the 31 July which means it’s the official start of the Dragonfly River Make Along in collaboration with the lovely Kitey (aka the Yarn Whisperer). We are super excited to share this summer’s project with you!

All the folks that ordered the exclusive Dragonfly River MAL kit should have already received the gorgeous Yarn Whisperer yarn (plus fab extras), and the pattern went out to everyone a few days ago (from Kitey – so maybe check your junk mail if the pattern doesn’t seem to have appeared). So we should be all ready to begin!

The exclusive colourway that Kitey has come up with this summer was inspired by sparkling rivers and the iridescent beauty of dragonflies. It contains fabulously rich greens and teals combined with beautiful tonal soft blue shades – plus that little bit of stelina sparkle (I LOVE IT). This has been married up with a hank of natural slub yarn because that’s beautiful in it’s own right – especially along side the hand dyed version as the colours really pop! And the slub yarn has the most fantastic texture – it’s my new yarn crush!

And in amongst the kit there is THE MOST FABULOUS stitch marker from Mrs G! It’s the cutest teeny tiny (river) stones alongside a beautiful silver dragonfly! I know I say it every time, but these are my new favourites – and they are just the perfect compliment to the yarn and the design for our cowl.

For the full information about this particular MAL you can find all the details here (or find via the top menu of this blog under the tab ‘CALS AND MALS’). But generally the idea is that the MAL is a relaxed event designed to be a lovely summer project – this time round we are making a cowl.

The Make Along will run from today (Sunday 31 July 2022) until Thursday 15 September 2022 giving everyone plenty of time, during busy summer holiday season, for you to make the pattern. The Whispers of the Sea Make-Along is Here!

Happy 5 July, also known as Whispers of the Sea Make-Along Day! Kitey (aka the Yarn Whisperer) and I have been really impatient for it to get here so we could share with you the design we’ve matched to the yarn!

If you were one of our early bird shoppers then you should have already received your yarn – and the pattern went out to everyone yesterday (from Kitey) so we could be ready for the start today (so maybe check your junk mail if the pattern doesn’t seem to have appeared).

RECAP AND CLARIFICATIONS

This make along is designed as a slow, and relaxing summer project – putting those extra daylight hours to good use. We have put together a long make along period because we know that the summer can be a busy time for everyone and we didn’t want anyone to feel rushed with their project.

There is no specific schedule to the make along, you have over 2 months in theory, until the official end of our MAL on 10 September – but you can share your finished makes before or after this date as you complete your wrap.

Kitey has worked his magic to put together TWO amazing colourways for this MAL; there’s the gorgeous Laminariales (lam-in-are-i-arlez), which is inspired by kelp forests, and is just a gorgeous mixture of greens, teals and a hint of blue, and there is Zoantharia (Zo-anth-air-ria), inspired by soft corals, which is a beautiful mixture of pinks and orange tones.

Are you #teamlaminariales or #teamzoantharia? They are soooo pretty in real life, and the slub yarn in just simply gorgeous to work with. However if slub yarn is totally new to you you may find my recent post Tips for Crocheting with Slub Yarn of use.

If this is the first time you are hearing about the MAL there are still a handful of kits available on The Yarn Whisperer website at the cost of £44 + postage. Each kit will include 2 skeins of hand-dyed slub yarn, which you can choose in either of the colourways shown above, beautiful sea glass beads, a digital copy of the pattern and there will also be a few treats for good measure, including some fabulous Mrs G Stitch stitch markers.

For the full information about this particular MAL you can find all the details here (or find via the top menu of this blog under the tab ‘CALS AND MALS’).

SUPPORT AND HOLIDAY SNAPS

There will be support for the pattern as usual in my Facebook group, and you could also pop in the Virtual Stitch-n-B*tch zoom sessions hosted by Kitey every Tuesday and Sunday at 2pm or Friday at 5.20pm (please see meeting codes on The Yarn Whisperer feed on Instagram).

As this is a summer make-along we are really hoping you will share your photos with us of either your staycation or vacation view! We are hoping to put together a summer photo book of all your wonderful photos, that we will share in September at the end of the MAL.

Simply send or tag us in your perfect summery pictures – it could be your make in progress in a summery setting, or you working on it with a summer cocktail, or the finished make! All photos will be credited and shared online here on the blog and on the Yarn Whisperer website. Please just let us know how you’d like to be credited (e.g. first or Instagram name!)

SHARING WITH THE WOTSMAL MAKEALONG COMMUNITY

We will be sharing our progress with the hashtags #wotsmal #kcacouk #yarnwhisperer and you can add either #teamlaminariales or #teamzoantharia for the specific colourways! If you’re blogging, feel free to leave links to your post(s) in the comments here.

We do hope that you enjoy this fun make-along; Kitey and I can’t wait to see your wonderful new wraps come to life!

Until next time folks! Happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on my friends xx

Whispers of the Sea Summer Make-Along

I’m super excited to say that this summer I’m joining forces again with the FABULOUSLY talented yarn dyer Kitey, aka the Yarn Whisperer to bring you a brand new summer make along (MAL), called ‘Whispers of the Sea’,

After our hugely successful winter make-along collab, for the crocheted Solstice Garden Wrap, Kitey and I got over-excited and immediately started planning our next make along project, this time for the summer.

It’s a project I’m rather delighted by; I love how my design has come together in partnership with the AMAZING colourways that Kitey has put together!

But what’s a make-along or MAL I hear some of you ask? Well maybe you are familiar with the term CAL for a crochet-along (or a KAL in knitting) it’s sort of similar but a MAL has a few differences.

A make-along is when a specific pattern is released with all of the details required to make the design; along with a specific start date for everyone to begin their project together. Then, unlike a crochet-along where you would have bits of the pattern supplied to you over a number of weeks, you have the pattern in full with and end date to make it by. It’s a relaxed way to make a project as you can work at your own pace, but there is a deadline to hold you accountable should you need one.

For the summer make-along I’ve put together a design that would be the perfect holiday project, something that you can do at your own pace, that is nice and relaxing but engaging enough to be enjoyable as you create a lovely summer wrap.

I’m not going to show you the wrap design yet, but I will say, for this design, Kitey and I have been digging into the sea for our inspiration! There are shells, kelp, coral, waves and my favourite thing ever, sea glass, that have influenced this design – and I love how it’s turned out!

Will you be #teamlaminariales or #teamzoantharia? They are soooo pretty in real life – Kitey’s made it almost too hard to choose!

Pre-order’s for MAL kits can be made on The Yarn Whisperer website from 10 May 10am (NOW!) at the cost of £44 + postage. Each kit will include 2 skeins of hand-dyed slub yarn (which is my new favourite!), beautiful sea glass beads, a digital copy of the pattern (which will be sent to you the day before the MAL begins) and there will also be a few treats for good measure, including some fabulous Mrs G Stitch stitch markers.

AND if you order your kit in the first 24 hours you can enjoy a 10% Early Bird discount.

Kits will be dyed to order over the coming weeks, with generally a 1 week turn-around from order to shipping. But we’d advise you to get in quick to ensure you get your kit in plenty of time to crochet along with us!

Last International orders will be shipped by 5 June if ordered by 22 May 2021. UK orders will continue to be shipped after this date, but ordering early ensure yours arrives in plenty of time to join us on 5 July 2021.

The MAL will start on 5 July and will run until 10 September when everyone can have a ta-dah moment and show off their wraps. We have put together a long make along period because we know that the summer can be a busy time for everyone and we didn’t want anyone to feel rushed to make their wrap.

This project is all about that relaxed sunny day work in progress that you can take with you on holiday, to work on by the pool or on the beach, or in the garden, that you can pick up and put down, and work on at your own pace in your own time!

I’ve put together all the details for this particular MAL on a landing page which you can find to save the details here, or find via the top menu of this blog under the tab ‘CALS AND MALS’.

There will be support for the pattern as usual in my Facebook group, and also you can pop in and join in with the Virtual Stitch-n-B*tch sessions hosted by Kitey. Those are a bit like going to a virtual knit and natter group, and everyone there is really lovely and helpful.

We do hope that you will join both Kitey and myself for this fun make-along – we can’t wait to see your wonderful new wraps come to life!

Until next time folks! Happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on my friends xx
