Pattern Re-Release | Bexley the Bunny Rabbit

As you know I’m slowly working my way through old Deramores patterns to add to my pattern shops. As we are moving towards Spring, and an Easter-ish sort of time I thought I’d continue with the rabbit theme – so the next pattern that I have been able to re-format is Bexley the Bunny Rabbit.

Bexley is a carrot farmer who is quite ear-resistable in his cute dungarees with his freshly picked carrot from his bumper crop.

As I originally made my bunny out of Deramores yarn, which, although LoveCrafts are selling stock they have acquired, they cannot guarantee future yarn availability. I therefore made the decision to offer alternative yarn in the pattern which mean the suggested yarn colours may vary from colours shown in the photographs.

The yarn suggestions I chose are for the cuddle bunny I believe are very close alternatives; I chose Paintbox Simply DK which is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that comes in 100g (276m) – so a bit longer in length than Deramores DK, which I used with a 3.25mm (US size D/3) hook.

For your Bunny you only need 1 ball of Paper White (Shade 100) and a small amount of 1 ball of Bubblegum Pink (Shade 150). Other than that you would need some 9mm safety eyes, stitch markers, toy filler, pins and a yarn needle to sew all the pieces together.

Bexley is now ready to be ad-hop-ted by you! As it’s coming up to Easter you might be thinking about making some bunnies – though this little fellow would be a perfect for animal loving friends and family, or just as a lovely Spring project.

The 7 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. It’s classed as an “intermediate” pattern as it might be a bit tricky for a new crocheter without an understanding of crocheting in the round and putting together and shaping amigurumi.

Please bear with me with regards to re-releasing the old Deramores patterns, it can take up to a whole day to reformat and upload to various shops, so it will be a work in progress – though do let me know if there’s a pattern you’d really love to see come next and I’ll see what I can do!

Pattern Re-Release | Cuddle Bunny

As you know I’m slowly working my way through old Deramores patterns to add to my pattern shops. The next pattern on the list, that I have been able to re-format, is my sweet Cuddle Bunny.

Are you looking for some-bunny to love? You’d better hop to it! This super cute bunny is just waiting for their new best friend to bring them a carrot and a snuggle!

As it’s coming up to Easter you might be thinking about making some bunnies – though this little fellow would be a perfect little keepsake for a child’s birthday or christening or just as a lovely Spring project.

The 4 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. Although I’ve classed it as an “easy” pattern perfect for a beginner crocheter, who has an understanding of crocheting in the round, and would like to make some amigurumi.

Mini Crochet Kit | Hanging Heart Ornament

You may remember that back in December I created a couple of Christmas themed mini crochet kits. I actually had quite a bit of fun creating them, so at the most recent Crochet Sanctuary I launched a brand new kit for a cute hanging heart ornament.

Pattern Re-Release | Draco the Dragon

You’re probably aware that Deramores closed its doors quite quickly at the beginning of February 2022. Designers were told, at the same time as customers, that LoveCrafts would be acquiring some of the assets of Deramores, including Deramores-branded yarns and patterns.

I’m excited to say that LoveCrafts have given pattern rights back to relevant designers, which is fab as it means you’ll still be able to get the patterns you love. The first pattern that I have been able to re-format is Draco the Dragon.

You may remember that Draco was originally released on Friday 23 April (St George’s Day) in 2021. Draco the Dragon is an adorable baby dragon, and of course he’s really fired up to meet you!

As I originally made my dragon out of Deramores yarn, which, although LoveCrafts are selling stock they have acquired, they cannot guarantee future yarn availability. I therefore made the decision to offer alternative yarn in the pattern which mean the yarn suggestion colours may vary from colours shown in the photographs.

The finished result I hope you’ll think is kind of roar-some! I can’t wait to see some of the dragons you make! I’m kind of hoping someone will make a purple version!

The 6 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. Although I’ve classed it as an “intermediate” pattern I would suggest an advanced beginner, who has an understanding of crocheting in the round, would have no problem hooking up a dragon.

Deramores | Gingerbread Man

Tis’ the season for Gingerbread Men and there’s a new crochet pattern and yarn pack in my Deramores shop that you don’t have to worry about going out of date!

I’ve got a bit of a thing about Gingerbread men – I just think they are totally Chrismassy! Whether it’s building a Gingerbread House or making the little men themselves, it’s something that always has a place in our house during the holidays.

This weekend was National Gingerbread Decorating Day apparently (usually the second Saturday in December) so it seems totally appropriate for me to share with you my fully decorated ginger guy!

I made my Gingerbread Man with the rather apply named Deramores Studio DK Gingerbread! I also used a small amount of Frost, Peridot and Ruby for his frosting, buttons and bowtie all with a 3.25mm hook. The pattern is available as just the digital download or as a kit which you can pick up here.

Mini Crochet Kits | Tree and Gingerbread Ornaments

December seems to be positively flying by does it! I had meant to add this post to the blog before now, but before it’s truly too late I need to tell you about two mini crochet kits that are now available in my Etsy store.

At the most recent Crochet Sanctuary I was delighted to be able to share a little pop up shop with the other guests with a range of my KCACOUK, Yarnybobs and Dear Ewe products.

On that weekend I debuted a couple of brand new mini crochet kits for sale that went down very well, and I’ve listed the remaining limited amount in my KCACOUKDesigns store if you’d like one too. Deramores | O’ Christmas Tree

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how lovely are thy branches! There’s only 8 days left of November (eek) which means that Christmas tree time will soon be upon us! So I’m here to tell you about a couple of tree-mendously cute festive patterns that I’ve got in my Deramores shop that you might just want to tree-t yourself too.

The first is a little tree-ditional looking Christmas tree pincushion, which is the perfect festive accessory to keep your pins and needles organised in the lead up to Christmas. It comes with a lifetime guaran-tree that it won’t drop any pins on the floor, and I think it would make a fun little stocking filler or Secret Santa gift.

I made my tree with Deramores Studio DK yarn in Fir, Gingerbread and a small amount of Mustard with a 3.25mm hook. The pattern is available as just the digital download or as a kit which you can pick up here.

You might also like to add a sprinkle of Christmas magic to your workspace with a crocheted desktop Christmas tree which stands at approx. 36cm tall – perfect for bringing the cheer to those around you this holiday season.

This tree was also made with Deramores Studio DK yarn this time using Fir, Chocolate, Paprika and Citrine with a 3.25mm hook. The pattern is available as just the digital download or as a kit which you can pick up here. Please note the colours for the baubles are not included in the kit, you only need such small amounts that you could either use stash or you could purchase some of the smaller 50g Deramores Studio DK balls of yarn in a specific colour to match your own décor.

The Rise of Crochet-Alongs

I was delighted to be asked recently, by Simply Crochet magazine, if I wanted to talk about crochet-a-longs for an article they were putting together for issue 114.

If you are new to crochet, a crochet-a-long, or CAL, might be a unfamiliar term; well a crochet along is usually a project where the pattern is released in stages so that people can crochet along the individual parts at the same time.

Blankets are often featured, though it could be anything from a shawl to a cushion, though there are many projects out there for amigurumi fans too. Anything where the crochet community can come together and work in tandem can become a wonderful CAL project.

I’m not going to go into everything I talk about (on pages 65 – 66!) because I’ll let you read it yourself – there are also many other wonderful designers that talk about their CALs too.

I did think however that it might be a really nice opportunity to talk about what I like about CALs and I’d love to know your thoughts about them too!

I’ve been running a variety of CALs since 2015, although I had a little break in 2019 / 20, there’s pretty much been something for us to crochet together for the last 5 years – which seems crazy when I stop to think about it! And I know I’m certainly not through with CALs just yet…

Without a doubt my favourite things about CALs are how social it feels, I get such a lovely sense of the crochet community when everyone is working on the same pattern together. I am totally astounded and grateful of the camaraderie of the thousands of participants world wide that have joined in with the various CALs.

As a designer I love getting engrossed in a big design idea and seeing it through from concept to finished tested design. Over the years, I’ve been getting steadily more adventurous with my designs which I hope you will enjoy!

Stitch Story – KCACOUK Crochet-a-long 2018

There’s absolutely loads of different CALs out there, many are free, or even are run in parts in your favourite magazines. They also often start at different times of the year so you should always be able to find one for your next project.

And of course you don’t have to do the CAL when it’s running if you have other things you need to do, you can always save it until later to work on it at your own pace. Deramores | Dutch Bunnies

Hey folks, hope you are all well, I’ve got an ear-resistibly cute pattern to share with you today, some cute Dutch Bunnies! These little guys make me so hoppy!

Easily identifiable by there characteristic colour patterns these little bunnies are ready to be ad-hop-ted! Essentially, Dutch Bunnies are a white rabbit, with a colored base coat like black, brown, grey or tortoiseshell.

For my little Dutch Bunnies I used Deramores Studio DK in Frost (White), Chocolate and Gingerbread with a 3mm hook. But it would be easy to match your own pet colour if that’s something you wanted to try, as there are lots of different natural shades, in the Studio DK range, to choose from.

If you aren’t familiar with Deramores Studio DK it’s 100% acrylic anti-piling yarn which is fab for any projects that might see a lot of wear and tear – like cuddly bunnies!

HOTH | Eevee Amigurumi

For my youngest daughters birthday this year she asked me to make her a Eevee Pokemon toy – I think she was hugely influenced by her big sister, who is, in her own words, a Pokemon fanatic. Never one to turn down a request to make them something I set to finding a pattern.

Luckily I remembered that in Issue 67 of Crochet Now magazine there happened to be a fabulous official Eevee Pokemon character, by Sabrina Somers, that I’d seen. Unfortunately that particular issue was no longer on sale, but I was able to get the back issue from the CraftStash website. A couple of days later the magazine arrived and I was able to get started.

There’s actually something really relaxing working on someone else’s pattern for a change. As a designer I’m having to make all the decisions and, don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the creativity of designing, but it’s very refreshing to just be able to sit and crochet something without having to work things out!

The suggested yarn was Phildar Phil Coton 3, but for my Eevee I used Deramores Studio DK in Frost, Latte and Chocolate that I’d got in my stash with a 3.25mm hook. If you aren’t familiar with Deramores Studio DK it’s lovely soft 100% acrylic anti-piling yarn which is fab for making amigurumi with as it doesn’t get all bobbly over time like some other yarns can – I’ve used it for many amigurumi in the past.

After working up the pattern, to finish her off, I used my trusty glue gun to add some black felt eyes and nose, and I used a pet brush, (which I bought solely for brushing yarn not pets), for her fluffy collar.

The pattern was very easy to follow and resulted in, what I think, is a very cute Eevee toy at the end. My daughter loves her, and both daughters have enjoyed playing games with her.

If you were looking for some more crochet Pokemon patterns, then the pattern I made is also available in a book officially licensed by The Pokemon Company, along with another 19 other characters.

It’s by Sabrina Somers, called Pokemon Crochet and is available on Amazon; it looks like a really fun book with many of the Pokemon favourites (or the Pokemon I know the names of included like Pikachu, Squirtle, Magikarp and Charmander.

I thoroughly enjoyed making my Eevee and would definitely recommend the pattern for anyone on the look out for Pokemon projects.
