Pattern Re-Release | Lola the Lovebug

February is often known as a month dedicated to and all about love. With that in mind allow me to re-introduce little Lola the Lovebug. This loveable bug would make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift to give your other half – or as a gift to give to anyone you love!

Lola is the cutest little love bug with a cheeky face, bright pink body and little hearts on top of her antennae. She’s holding a little heart to spread love and good vibes.

It was important to me to not just create something that was just about Valentine’s and sweethearts; instead I wanted it to be a character that celebrated ‘love’ in general whether it is for family, friends or yourself.

Crochet Lola the amigurumi love bug by Heather C Gibbs - available now from pattern shops.

I used a DK weight yarn (light worsted) James C Brett – It’s Pure Cotton which is a 100% cotton yarn that comes in 100g (215m) and is available in a wide variety of colours.

I used a 3mm hook (closest US size D/3) with the following colours;

  • 1 ball IC26 Mid Grey (A)
  • 1 ball IC28 Fuchsia (B)
  • 1 ball IC06 Light Pink (C)
  • 1 ball IC19 Black (D)

You also need black embroidery thread, stitch markers, toy filler, pins and a yarn needle to sew all the pieces together.

Mini Crochet Kit | Hanging Heart Ornament

You may remember that back in December I created a couple of Christmas themed mini crochet kits. I actually had quite a bit of fun creating them, so at the most recent Crochet Sanctuary I launched a brand new kit for a cute hanging heart ornament.

Flat lay of the Hanging Hearts Crochet Kit, featuring a clear heart-shaped bauble, soft yarn, decorative beads, and a tassel, displayed alongside the finished crochet heart decoration.

Show your home some love with a handmade hanging heart decoration. The finished decoration, with it’s mixture of crochet and wooden beads, will add a lovely touch to any room or be a perfect gift for a loved one.

Each kit contains 2 mini balls of Scheepjes Catona, the pattern, wooden beads and tassel all wrapped up in a cute reusable bauble! There’s also the optional tool extra of picking up a premium bamboo 3mm hook (US approx. size D/3) if you don’t have one of those to hand.

Pattern is written in UK terms, but shipping is available to anywhere. If you are not sure about UK terms then you might find my blog post British vs. American Crochet Terms: What’s the Difference? helpful.

LGC Knitting & Crochet Magazine | Princess Jessica and Love Tokens

Once upon a time, in a far away land, a crochet designer that was asked to design an enchanting princess doll…four months later Princess Jessica appeared on the front cover of issue 98 of LGC Knitting & Crochet Magazine (on sale now) and the crochet designer lived happily ever after!

Have you seen it? I was super excited to see Princess Jessica as this month’s cover star! What a lovely start to the year.

I was really keen to make her a little bit more of a modern princess which is why she is supporting a chic ‘Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ inspired up do. A hairstyle which happens to be the perfect fit for a tiara!

As well as Princess Jessica there’s also a mini pattern series by me of little love tokens which includes; love bird key rings, a mini heart gift bag, a heart brooch and a heart handbag charm. They all make really quick valentines gifts or, if you are like me, you can just crochet loads of puffy hearts because they are super fun to make.
