I’m beyond thrilled to share some exciting news with you all. I’ve had the absolute joy of collaborating with the wonderful team at Crochet Society to bring you a delightful new collection that combines two of my greatest loves: crochet and the timeless charm of the Peanuts gang!

You may remember that I had the pleasure of designing a couple of Peanuts-inspired patterns for Crochet Now magazine, including an adorable pair of Snoopy and Woodstock loveys, as well as a Halloween-themed Snoopy. So, I was absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to revisit these beloved characters again – this time with the exciting addition of Charlie Brown!

This was my first time using Crochet Society’s Cuddly Craft DK—a 100% polyester chenille yarn (100g / 220m) and I have to say, it was a real pleasure to work with. It’s super soft, of course, but what I really appreciated was that, unlike some other chenille yarns, you can still make out your stitches – that makes it one of the easier chenille’s to crochet with.

New Crochet Pattern | Diamond Daydream Baby Blanket

Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need for the Diamond Daydream Filet Crochet Baby Blanket:

Your choice of yarn (I recommend soft, baby-friendly yarns like DK weight or lighter). I used Paintbox Special DK (Light Worsted), a wonderfully soft and, most importantly, machine-washable 100% acrylic yarn—ideal for baby blankets. Each 100g ball contains 276m (302yds) of yarn, giving you plenty to work with, making it a perfect choice for creating cosy blankets.
A suitable crochet hook, I used a 4mm (US size G/8)
Some stitch markers to help track your filet crochet as you work (optional but useful!)
A comfortable space to enjoy the crochet process, and some time to dream of the lovely bundle of joy who will receive this masterpiece!

I’ve created my blanket using two soft, complementary colours (Paper White 100 and Stormy Grey 104) to make the most of the blocky striped effect, but the possibilities are endless! Imagine how a pastel rainbow of five gentle shades would look—so dreamy, right? Whether you go for one colour or multiple, this blanket will make a statement, no matter the hue.

I created this pattern with fellow filet crochet lovers in mind (myself included!), featuring an easy-to-follow design that’s both enjoyable and relaxing to work on. It’s the perfect project to keep your hands busy while crafting something truly special. My Hand-Dyed Yarn Challenge 2025: Stash-Busting with Style

As any established crocheter can probably tell you, hand-dyed yarn is a temptation that’s hard to resist. Those unique colourways, the softness, and the sheer joy of supporting talented indie dyers all contribute to a growing stash that sometimes grows faster than we can crochet, knit, or weave. That’s where my Hand-Dyed Yarn Challenge comes in!

In 2025, I’m setting myself a goal: to complete at least 12 projects, over the course of the year, using hand-dyed yarn. It’s a personal challenge to finally make a dent in my collection of beautiful skeins while enjoying the process of turning them into something special.

Here’s the plan:

The Rules of the Challenge

One Project Per Month: Each month, I’ll start and (hopefully!) complete a project using at least one skein or more of hand-dyed yarn from my stash.
Stash Stories: For each project, I’ll share when and where I purchased the yarn. Spoiler alert: some of these skeins have been in my stash for years! I’ll also be sharing who the clever yarn dyers are in each instance.
Stash matters: Key to this challenge is going to be trying to use up my stash, and not really allowing any new yarn to come into the stash unless it’s going to be used straight away!
Design Choices: The projects might be my own designs or patterns from other creators that catch my eye.
Makealongs Count: Any projects from my ongoing makealongs, like the annual makealongs I do with The Yarn Whisperer and Mrs G Makes, will count toward this challenge, as I’ll still be using hand-dyed yarn that I won’t be adding to my stash.
Months don’t matter: If for any reason I can’t keep up with one project per month, due to other commitments, I’m just going to aim for 12 completed by the end of the year. That should allow me to catch up in quieter times if needs be.

Why This Challenge Matters

My purchasing of hand-dyed yarn has gotten a little out of hand, in fact it’s starting to feel like I’ve created a whole new hobby of collecting it rather than using it! And that is just such a shame as I have some truly beautiful yarn just waiting to become something amazing!

Hand-dyed yarn isn’t just a material, each skein represents the artistry of the dyer, with it’s own unique story. But it’s easy for those stories to get tucked away in a drawer, waiting for “the perfect project.” This challenge is my way of celebrating the yarn and the memories tied to it. And diving into my stash will, I’m sure, produce the thrill of finding something unique, perhaps find yarn I’d forgotten about, and I’m really looking forward to finally unlocking all that potential for creativity.

January: A Fresh Start

My first project is already underway! I’m starting off using up 50g of undyed yarn left over from a blanket project (more on that later) and a 50g skein from Sable Yarns. Apparently the Sable stands for “Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy” which seemed HUGELY appropriate for this challenge!

My plan is to make a short keyhole type scarflette that uses up 100g. A keyhole scarf features some sort of slit through which one end of the scarf can be threaded, providing a secure fit without requiring a knot. These scarves are less bulky and more streamlined than traditional styles. It’s going to be my own design and I’m looking to create a neat small scarf, that is just big enough for just the neck and that slightly sits across the top of the chest – I’m looking forward to having a go at creating something that I’ve never tried before.

New Pattern Release | Sleepy Bear Wash Cloth

Who doesn’t love a cuddly bear? Inspired by the cosy vibes of bedtime and my love for creating things that make people smile, the Sleepy Bear Wash Cloth came to life. I wanted to design something functional yet charming, and a bear-themed wash cloth felt like the perfect fit.

The bear’s sweet, sleepy face is sure to bring a bit of joy to your bathroom or nursery. Whether you are making it for yourself, as a gift for new parents, or even for kids who could use a fun way to make bath time less of a chore, this wash cloth ticks all the boxes.

Multi-functional crochet sleepy bear wash cloths that allow you to wash, entertain and play with your baby.

The yarn I used for this wash cloth was Anchor Baby Pure Cotton Yarn (50g, length: 165m) which is a 100% unmercerised DK (light worsted) yarn which I combined with a with a 3.5mm hook (US size E). Anchor Baby Pure Cotton Yarn is available in 24 colours which range from a soft muted powdered colours or your more traditional pastel shades. Importantly it’s hypoallergenic and saliva resistant (love this) to be entirely safe for babies from a newborn upwards

The only other things you will need for this project are; some stitch markers, black embroidery thread and a tapestry needle

New Crochet Pattern Release | Gnome Sweet Gnome Advent Calendar

Hello, lovelies! If there’s one thing I absolutely adore, it’s Christmas! The festive season is a time of joy, magic, and of course, crochet. This year, I had the pleasure of sharing something extra special at The Crochet Sanctuary – my Gnome Sweet Gnome Advent. It’s a delightful crochet advent project filled with festive fun, and I’m so excited to tell you all about it!

For those of you unfamiliar with The Crochet Sanctuary, let me fill you in! It’s a luxurious crochet retreat set in the stunning Cranage Hall in Cheshire. The hosts, Lisa and Lynda-Rose, always plan the most amazing weekends for their guests, and when it’s the weekend near to Christmastime, they take things up a festive notch.

I was so thrilled to be asked to lead a workshop again; the Crochet Sanctuary is one of my favourite places, and the people I’ve met there over the years have become such wonderful friends. As before Lisa and Lynda had given me carte blanche to do what I wanted for the design, all they knew was that it was going to be some sort of crochet advent calendar.

I always like to try and do something a little different, and initially had lots of ideas of what I could do but finally settle on the Gnome Sweet Gnome Advent Calendar. Picture this: a cosy, charming gnome hanging in your home, ready to count down the days to Christmas with you. Each day, a pocket holds a little surprise, making it a fun and interactive way to celebrate the holiday season. Not only is it a wonderful decoration, but it also makes for a fantastic family tradition.

I wanted my advent to not be too overtly ‘Christmassy’ for those that didn’t really celebrate the season, so I picked what I thought were the Scandi type colours of grey and red – and I thought who wouldn’t like to start the day with a little treat throughout December.

To make my calendar I used a 3.5mm hook (US size E/4), for the ‘calendar’ part of the wall hanging I used Sidar Stories DK in a lovely bright red (shade date night 808), Sidar Stories DK is a lovely cotton rich blended yarn that I’ve used before; it’s a 60% cotton and 40% acrylic. It comes in 50g balls (140m) and is a soft yarn which holds it’s stitches well. Then for the gnome I used Sidar Happy Cotton DK which comes in sweet little 20g balls (43m) and is available in 50 different shades and I used four different colours; 774 Stomp, 789 Lippy, 773 Sandcastle and 761 Dolly.

Then the only other things you would need are some stitch markers, a tapestry needle, some toy stuffing, a 30cm dowel rod, some string and some advent buttons or beads to mark the days. I used these Wooden Advent Buttons from Etsy, but there are other options available from places like Amazon like these Wooden gift tags or these advent pin badges, or these from Craftwood Creations.

The pattern is a nice one to do with a fairly simple pattern repeat once you get into the swing of things and you can choose to make the pockets as you go or add them all at the end. Then the only other techniques incorporated are increases and decrease placed at strategic points to create the gnome features. I would say that this pattern is suitable for adventurous beginner crocheters, offering an exciting opportunity to explore new stitches and techniques while creating a fun piece of Christmas decor.

It was such a pleasure to see everyone’s gnomes come to life at the sanctuary. The workshop was filled with chatter, laughter, and a whole lot of yarn. By the end of the weekend, the room was bursting with festive cheer and some incredibly cute gnomes were underway! And of course, what’s Christmas without a little gnome punning fun? They were totally sleigh-ing it!

There were gnome-where near enough hours in the day to crochet all the festive cuteness we wanted, including the wonderful pair of festive socks and a wonderfully cute light up Christmas tree that we also had as projects. But I love that everyone walked away with their own unique creation and a bit of gnome magic to add to their holiday décor.

Pattern Re-release | Poppy Appeal 2024

Back in 2020 I was honoured to be asked to create an official Royal British Legion (RBL) crochet poppy design for Deramores. With the closure of Deramores (in Feb 2022) I’ve been slowly working my way through any associated patterns to add to my pattern shops, however as this was a pattern was originally designed in collaboration with a charity it’s been a bit of a different task to sort out.

The poppy is a well-known and well-established symbol, one that carries a wealth of history and meaning with it. It’s a symbol of both remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Personally it always makes me think of my Granddad who fought in World War 2.

I’ve thought about the best way to move forward with this pattern and this is what I have come up with. This poppy pattern will cost £2.50 (approx. $3.05) and will be available in all of my pattern stores (see links below).

For the sake of the re-release and transparency for every purchase made I will donate 100% of the RRP to the Royal British Legion to support the Armed Forces community. My time for setting up the PDFs, any pattern admin, platform fees and adding the patterns to the pattern store I’ll be doing free of charge. Totals will be totted up yearly and any amounts will go directly to the Royal British Legion.

In the new update, I’ve included step-by-step photos for the poppy pattern to make it even easier to follow along! These visuals will guide you through each stage of the process, helping you see exactly how your project should look as it comes together. Whether you’re a beginner or just need a little extra guidance, these photos will take you through the details, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable crochet experience.

For your poppies you can use any weight yarn but I would recommend a DK (Light worsted weight yarn), such as Paintbox Simply DK in Rose Red, Grass Green and Pure Black, 3.25mm (US size D/3) hook. For reference an average sized 100g (276m / 302yds) ball of red yarn you can easily make about 20 poppies.

There’s no wrong way to wear a poppy, you could glue gun them to a headband, wreath, blanket or cushion, or just add a brooch pin, to honour and remember the service and the sacrifice of those within the Armed Forces. And if like me, you’re wearing a poppy from a previous year, you can make sure you still go and donate a couple of quid to such a worthy charity.

Pattern Re-Release | Briar Blanket

This cosy blanket was originally featured in the August 2022 issue of I Like Crochet magazine, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it turned out. It’s so lovely and squishy – perfect for cuddling up on chilly evenings.

The Briar Blanket was born out of my love for nature—specifically, those peaceful woodland walks that are full of interesting textures and shapes. I wanted to capture the feeling of being wrapped up in something that reminds you of nature’s beauty.

The design itself is a simple combination of stitches that creates a series of beautiful repeating patterns. I would suggest this intricate blanket is an intermediate pattern for crocheters looking for a fun challenge where you can enjoy watching the pattern come to life as you work.

I used the delectable Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky for this blanket, which is 100% wool and comes in 100g hanks (137yds / 125m). Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky is a heavy weight yarn that works up quickly; I used for the blanket were Currant 28211 (A, 6 balls), Gosling 28214 (B, 12 balls) and Fedora 28212 (C, 4 balls) with a 6mm (US size J/10) hook (which is amongst the suggested hook sizes).

This chunky blanket, with its large feature tassels, would make a perfect addition to style up your bed – or to keep as a throw on your sofa getting ready for when those nights turn cooler. Make in three muted complementary colours, like I did, or I think it would look stunning in jewel tones for a rich, cosy feel, or even pastels for a soft and serene vibe.

New Crochet Pattern Release | Festival Fusion Cowl

Hello, lovelies! I’m beyond excited to share with you my latest crochet pattern release: the Festival Fusion Cowl. This design holds a special place in my heart and I love how it turned out.

I have always had a penchant for crafting crochet cowls, and my favourite type of cowl to wear is a funnel shaped one. However I’ve never designed one of my own until now. This particular style of cowl resonates with me the most, as it offers both warmth and elegance – perfect for chilly days or adding a chic touch to any outfit.

I envisioned crafting a cowl that not only embraced the classic funnel silhouette but also incorporated experimenting with stitch patterns and that would showcase the two beautiful Hook and Cwtch handdyed skeins. I used ‘The Knight Bus’ (rich purples with pops of blue, yellow, orange and white’ and ‘Crookshanks’ (rich orange tones from light to dark) both yarns inspired by a love of Harry Potter. Though you could pick any two colours to reflect your own individual taste, I personally think the bigger the contrast the more effective your cowl could be.

The cowl came into creation as another collaboration with the lovely Jess from Hook and Cwtch. After the fun of working together on the Festival Fade Shawl, for last years Carry on Crafting Festival we decided we would do it again.

Alongside Amanda from Mrs G Makes we creating an exclusive Carry on Crafting Kit for all the yarny friends we knew that were going to the festival so we could all work on the same project whilst we were there.

As before the kit included beautiful hand-dyed yarn by Jess, a brand new pattern designed by me and some wonderful goodies from Amanda. The yarn that Jess created for this years project was just stunning! Called Neon Lights and Party Nights it was the softest blend of 4ply (fingering weight) 85% Superwash Extrafine Merino (19.5 micro) and 15% Nylon Yarn and we had a 100g / 400m of each colour. Amanda then created an exclusive tote bag, complete with sparkly writing, a matching yarn cosy (which perfectly holds the 100g / 800m cake of yarn you are working with), and ultra cute matching stitch marker.

To make my cowl I used a 4.5mm hook (closest US size 7). The pattern is a nice one to do with a fairly simple pattern repeat once you get into the swing of things. Then the only other techniques incorporated are increases placed at strategic points to create the wonderful funnel shape to the cowl. I would say that this pattern is suitable for adventurous beginner crocheters, offering an exciting opportunity to explore new stitches and techniques while creating a stunning accessory.

After Carry on Crafting I finished my second version in the new colour way of Neon Nights and Party Lights. Two absolutely gorgeous variegated yarns with beautiful pops of bright neon’s – I love how this version turned out. The UK the weather is definitely turning more Autumnal at the moment and I feel that both my cowls are going to get a lot of wear!

Pattern Re-Release | Ginger Gene the Gingerbread Man

Hi Lovelies! I’m absolutely thrilled to share some sweet news with you today! After receiving numerous requests and a sprinkle of festive cheer, I’m re-releasing one of my favourite seasonal patterns: Ginger Gene the Gingerbread Man. This delightful little character is perfect for adding a touch of holiday magic to your home, and I can’t wait for you all to crochet him.

Why am I releasing this festive pattern now I hear you ask? Well celebrating Christmas in July is the perfect opportunity to get a head start on holiday crafting, allowing you to create beautiful handmade gifts and decorations well before the winter rush.

Ginger Gene isn’t just any gingerbread man. He’s a dapper fellow with a cheeky smile, sporting a jaunty bow tie and buttons that make him stand out from the cookie crowd. Whether you’re looking to decorate your Christmas tree, create a charming table centrepiece, or find the perfect stocking stuffer, Ginger Gene is your guy.

I used a DK weight yarn (light worsted), and I’m suggesting Paintbox Simply DK (the DK yarn I originally used has now been discontinued). Paintbox Simply DK is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that comes in 100g (276m) and is available in a wide variety of colours.

I used a 3mm hook (closest US size D/3) and the colours I’ve suggested are 1 ball of Paper White (100), Soft Fudge (109) with and a bit of Rose Red (113) and Grass Green (129). Other than that you would need two pairs of 12mm black safety eyes, black embroidery thread, some stitch markers, some toy filler, pins and a yarn needle to sew all the pieces together.
