Hello my lovelies,

I’m so excited to finally be able to share a little festive secret I’ve been keeping… though if you follow me on Instagram then you may have already had a few sneaky peeps. This year, I had the absolute pleasure of contributing a brand-new pattern, Father Tedmas, to a very special e-book created for Little Box of Crochet.

If you’ve followed Little Box of Crochet (LBC) for a while, you’ll know just how much light Justine brings to the crochet community. This year hasn’t been an easy one for her, so some of the LBC designers wanted to do something to lift her spirits and show just how loved she is.

Orchestrated by the lovely Nicky from A Heart Shaped Cherry, myself and a group of designers quietly gathered together behind the scenes to create something joyful. The result? The Little Book of Merry Crochet Makes – a collection of festive crochet patterns each one donated with love. This e-book is our way of wrapping Justine in a big, yarny hug – and sharing that warmth with all of you.

There is such a fab range of patterns with levels from ‘easy’ to ‘intermediate’ that you can work your way through, and as we hit the mid-November point of the month, its the perfect time to start thinking about Christmas crochet projects.

My contribution, Father Tedmas, is a cheerful, festive fellow who’s ready to spread some seasonal sparkle. He was a joy to design, and I hope he brings just as much joy to anyone who hooks him up. Crochet Now 127 | Razzle and Dazzle the Elves

Hey lovelies, how are you doing? Well yesterday we went to our local Christmas Tree switch on and as there’s now less than 6 weeks before the big day, I’ll confess that my thoughts are now turned towards the festive season.

With that in mind let me introduce you to Razzle and Dazzle – two cheeky little elves who have hopped straight out of the pages of Crochet Now Issue 127. With twinkling eyes and vibrant colourful outfits, they’re the perfect festive companions to add to your handmade décor or to surprise someone special this season.

Meet the Elves

Razzle (in the blue) is the daring dreamer, always leaping from one snow-covered ledge to the next, while Dazzle (in the purple) is the clever tinkerer who loves to hide surprise candy canes and sparkly baubles around the room. Together they bring mischief, magic and merriment wherever they go – and now you can crochet them for your own festive adventures.

For both of my elves I used Ricorumi DK, one of my all-time favourite yarns. This 100% cotton yarn comes in handy 25g balls (57.5m) and is available in a wide range of options. I also used some Ricorumi Twinkly Twinkly which is also cotton yarn but includes a glittering thread because you’ve got to have a bit of sparkle at Christmas I feel.

SAVE RAZZLE AND DAZZLE ON RAVELRY 🎄

The only other things you will need to complete your duo is a 3.25mm hook, some toy stuffing, 2 pairs of 6mm black safety eyes, some stitch markers, a tapestry needle and some blusher (optional)

These elves would make wonderful gifts for children (or big kids!) and could be a delightful addition to festive décor – whether perched on a mantel or tucked into a stocking. They also make a joyful “crochet duo” project: you can change colours, mix and match accessories, and give each elf their own personality.

Inside Crochet 183 | Stellaris Bag

I’m so happy to share with you my latest pattern that’s featured in Issue 183 of Inside Crochet magazine – please may I introduce the Stellaris Bag 🌟

The Stellaris Bag is a simple but different crochet accessory that combines clean lines with the subtle sparkle of beads. It’s worked using a straightforward stitch pattern, and then brought to life with simple beadwork, crocheting with them as you go, that was designed to catch the light just like tiny constellations scattered across the night sky.

The name Stellaris comes from the Latin word for “starry,” and that’s exactly the mood I wanted to capture – something elegant, a touch magical, and a joy to make. The addition of beads may look intricate, but the technique is really beginner-friendly and adds a stunning effect without overcomplicating the process.

For this design, I used Drops Nord Mix, 50g; 45% alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 25% wool (Deep Ocean Mix 09) a smooth, lightweight yarn that gives great stitch definition and just the right amount of drape for a bag. The yarn’s soft sheen complements the sparkle of the sead beads perfectly, making it a stylish little statement piece. You can, of course, personalise your bag with different bead colours – think silver for moonlight shimmer or gold for a touch of sunshine glow.

For this design you will need stitch markers to help mark the beginning and end of each row and a tapestry needle, 110 x Pearl (334) seed beads size 6, extra large press stud and 3mm (Closest US size D/2).

I loved how this project turned out; if you’re looking to add a bit of handmade flair to your wardrobe then go grab your copy of Inside Crochet Magazine Issue 177.

Meet Argyll the Reindeer — A Festive Crochet Delight from Simply Crochet Issue 168

Hey lovelies, hope you are all well. Bit of advance warning, I’m going to be mentioning the ‘C’ word in this post. I know, I know – but it’s the beginning of November (already!), and us crocheters need a bit of prep time, am I right? So without further ado I’m delighted to share with you today a new pattern featured in Simply Crochet issue 168. Allow me to introduce Argyll the Reindeer – a charming little character who’s bound to bring some handmade holiday cheer to your hook this season.

Argyll is more than just a Christmas ornament; he’s a handmade friend who gives your home that warm, cosy holiday spirit. With his antlers, sweet face, and stout little body, he’s ideal as a hearth decoration or a whimsical gift for someone who adores handmade touches.

Sometimes a tiny decoration just won’t do am I right? You want something that really makes a statement. Standing proudly at around 36cm (14in) tall, Argyll is the reindeer for the job!

Argyll is a lovely easy make for adventurous beginners – the pattern uses simple stitches and clear shaping, so you can build confidence as you go. The only slightly fiddly part is his little scarf, but don’t let that put you off! Once you get your hook moving, it quickly comes together and adds such a charming finishing touch to his look. Before you know it, you’ll have a reindeer that’s ready to dash straight into your festive décor.

I used Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft Aran (170.1g / 288m. 100% Acrylic) in Feathered Gray, Pagoda and Plum Perfect with a bit of Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft Party Aran (85g / 150m.1% Metalized Polyester, 99% Acrylic) Fuchsia Sparkle – because what’s Christmas if you can’t have a bit of glitz!

Crochet Now 125 | Three Spooky Projects

Get ready for a hook-full of fun! Inside issue 125 of Crochet Now magazine, you’ll find not one, not two, but three of my latest designs to keep your crochet hooks busy this Autumn.

Scaring is caring! 🎃✨ On the run up to spooky season what better way to celebrate than with two new Carebear keyring patterns to add a little cuteness (and maybe a tiny scare!) to your makes? I’ve mentioned before how I love Carebears, and I always jump at the opportunity to create them in crochet.

These keyrings are perfect for hooking up quickly – think last-minute Halloween gifts, treats for trick-or-treaters, or just a way to add a little seasonal cheer to your own bag or keys. Whether you love the bold and bright colours of the Carebears or prefer something a little moodier for October, you can customise them to fit your spooky style.

For both of my Carebears I used Crochet Society Confection DK (Light worsted weight #3) which is anti-pilling 100% acrylic yarn that comes in 100g balls [210m] in a range of colours. I paired the Crochet Society Confection DK with a 3.25mm crochet hook (US D/3), then the only other things you would need for to complete your project are:

But that’s not all – in issue 125 you can also find the Spooktail the Cat who is ready for his favourite night of the year! 🐈‍⬛✨ Spooktail is all dressed up and ready to show off his brand-new Halloween costume to all his friends. He’s mischievous, magical, and just a little bit spooky – everything you need for a purrfect seasonal project. And the best bit? Spooktail’s ghost costume actually GLOWS in the dark!

For Spooktail I used Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze DK (Light worsted weight #3) which is a 67% Cotton, 33% Acrylic blended yarn that comes in 50g [145m] balls. Pebble Haze DK is a soft and beautiful yarn, in a range of shades inspired by nature’s beaches, pebbles and stones, I really like the effect it produces and can see me using it again in future projects.

Then I used Yarnsmiths Glow which is magic yarn that works by absorbing UV light energy (from either natural sunlight or artificial light) and slowly releasing it in the form of visible light. This photoluminescence means that the longer you expose the yarn to light, the longer it will glow for. Science aside it is such a fun yarn! It’s classed as an Aran (Worsted Weight #4) and is made from 100% Polyester.

I paired the yarns with a 3.5mm crochet hook (US E/4), then the only other things you would need for to complete your project are:

So grab your favourite yarn, a cosy blanket, and maybe a pumpkin-spiced treat or two – it’s time to crochet your way through to spooky season with Issue 125!

Crochet News | Meet Crochet Made Simple Magazine

If you’re anything like me, you can never resist hearing about something new in the crochet world – and I have some exciting news for you! There’s a brand-new magazine on the shelves called Crochet Made Simple, and I think you’re going to love it.

This budget-friendly publication comes from the same creative team behind Crochet Now, Your Crochet and Knitting and Crochet Society, so you know it’s going to be packed with inspiration. Each issue is brimming with loads of different patterns, covering everything from cosy garments and stylish accessories to snuggly blankets and cute toys.

One of my favourite things about Crochet Made Simple is that it brings back some fantastic patterns from their archives – perfect for those of us who may have missed them the first time around. And here’s the part I’m most excited about: my own pattern, Ghoulie the Ghost, will be featured in the next issue! For Ghoulie I used some Yarnsmiths Create Super Chunky, which was a new yarn to me. It’s a very squishy super chunky weight yarn that’s made from 100% Acrylic in 100g (80m) balls which helps make Ghoulie ‘hauntingly’ cute and ‘boo-tifully’ soft!

Standing at 70cm /27.5 inches tall the only other things you will need for Ghoulie are;

Crochet Now 124 | Redfern the Squirrel

Let me introduce you to Redfern the Squirrel, who’s scampered his way into Crochet Now Issue 124! With his fluffy tail and matching little acorn, he’s the perfect woodland friend to add to your crochet collection.

Redfern the Squirrel is a charming woodland wanderer, always busy gathering treasures from
the forest floor. With his bushy tail and keen eyes, he clutches a prized acorn. His gentle nature makes him a true guardian of the woodland.

For Redfern, I chose to use West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab DK (Light Worsted). There’s just something about this yarn that gives amigurumi a beautiful ‘heritage’ feel – almost like a nod to the kind of classic toys you’d find treasured in a keepsake box.

🌰 SAVE REDFERN THE SQUIRREL ON RAVELRY 🌰

Made from 100% British wool, ColourLab DK is both vibrant and durable, with that lovely balance of softness and sturdiness that makes it perfect for toy-making. Each 100g ball gives you 225m of woolly goodness, and I paired it with a 3.5mm hook (closest US size E/4) to bring Redfern to life. The natural stitch definition really helps his character shine, especially with those charming little details like his tufted ears and his acorn companion.

To complete your Redfern, you’ll only need a few extra supplies:

Toy stuffing (to make him perfectly cuddly)
2 black safety eyes (6mm) for that sweet, inquisitive squirrel expression
Black embroidery thread for the finishing touches
A Pet Brush (optional) for brushing out his fluffy tail

Care Bears were such a huge part of my childhood, and they still hold a really special place in my heart. I can remember hours spent watching their movies, snuggling my toys, and being completely captivated by their colourful world in my Panini sticker. album Out of them all, Grumpy Bear has always been my favourite – I’ve got such a soft spot for him. For each of the bears I used Crochet Society’s Cuddly Craft DK which I’ve used a few times now for different projects. If you are not familiar with it, it’s a 100% polyester chenille yarn (100g / 220m) and it’s really nice to work with, unlike some other chenille yarns, you can still make out your stitches making it one of the easier chenille’s to crochet with – and as a bonus it’s lovely and soft.

Simply Crochet Magazine | Granny Square Day 2025

Hello, crochet friends!
Granny Square Day 2025 is here, and it’s time to celebrate creativity, colour, and community! Whether you’ve been hooking for years or just picked up your very first skein, this special day is all about honouring the timeless granny square a design that has inspired makers across generations.

Granny Square Day started back in 2014, and it’s been growing ever since. The idea was simple: fill the Instagram grid with beautiful granny squares, creating a patchwork of inspiration that anyone could be part of. Each square posted on this day becomes part of a larger tapestry, symbolising our shared love for crochet.

As previous years Simply Crochet the latest issue of the magazine (Issue 165) comes with a special supplement to get your hooks sunk into. This year’s is titled ‘A Year of Granny Squares’ with 52 brand new designs there’s loads of inspiration for some new fabulously square projects.

And I’m really excited to say that I designed a new granny square for this supplement. The theme for this year’s Granny Square day is ‘Colour and Texture’ and that’s what I focused on for my design, the Mandala Medallion Square.

I used Rico Ricorumi for my block, with a 3.5mm hook (US E/4) which is a DK (Light Worsted) weight 100% cotton yarn that I had in my stash, but the designs would work equally well in any DK yarn or in fact with other fibres and yarn weights to make bigger or smaller blocks.

I love a granny square – not just for its stitches, but for everything it represents. It’s more than a crochet motif; it’s a little square of creativity! Super versatile, to take out and about with you, and often very beginner-friendly. And a granny square can become anything! Think blankets, bags, garments, coasters, cardigans – I might just be working on a granny square cardigan myself at the moment. And the best part? They’re the ultimate stash-buster, turning leftover yarn into something truly beautiful.
