Get ready to Glow with the Oriana Wrap in Crochet Now Issue 121

If you’re a fan of filet crochet accessories (like me), then you’re in for a treat with the latest issue of Crochet Now magazine. Issue 121 introduces my new design, the Oriana Glow Wrap, a pattern that promises to add a touch of colour to your wardrobe.

The Oriana Glow Wrap is a accessory that combines filet crochet stitch patterns with a graceful drape. Designed to capture the essence of the shimmering light of golden hour, this wrap is perfect for both daytime outings and evening events.

This pattern is available exclusively in Crochet Now Magazine, Issue 121, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out, I do so love both a filet project and a one ball project and this is both of those things!

☀️ SAVE ORIANA GLOW WRAP ON RAVELRY ☀️

I created the Oriana Glow Wrap from a Scheepjes Whirl made from a beautifully soft cotton-acrylic blend (60% Cotton and 40% Acrylic). The delicious gradient yarn comes in lots of scrumptious colour ways and has a generous twist which is fab to crochet with – it’s definitely a favourite yarn of mine and I always like to keep a whirl project on the go!

I used shade 554 Tangerine Tambourine with a 3.25mm hook (US size D/3). Then the only other things that you might find useful are some stitch markers to help track your filet crochet as you work (optional but useful!)

This design was inspired by my love for filet crochet and the joy of creating something beautiful with simplicity. It’s a one-ball project, making it wonderfully portable—perfect for crocheting on the go, whether you’re travelling, waiting at appointments, or relaxing at the park. The pattern is soothing to work on and ideal for anyone looking to unwind with their hook. Well what a time we are having folks! Covid 19 or coronavirus has many of us feeling anxious I’m sure. It has already impacted on every aspect of our lives and we’re left feeling worried about loved ones. Although crafting isn’t the answer to everything it can provide us with something positive and practical to focus on can’t it!

So in the hope that I can momentarily distract you or keep you occupied during lock down I was going to tell you that I’ve had my Waverley Kisses Scarf back from the Unravel Festival.

It’s now available for purchase on Ravelry but I thought I’d spread a little cheer by having a giveaway! Votes for Kisses | Unravel Design Competition

Did the title get your attention? Want to know what it’s all about – well I shall tell you, because I’m looked for help from my lovely blog readers! Excitingly I’ve had got a brand new pattern that’s been shortlisted in the Unravel 2020 design competition called The Waverley Kisses Scarf…

There’s nine designs now up for a public vote to pick a winner which will be launched at Unravel as part of their show guide during the festival on 21-23 February 2020.

Unravel is a three day yarn show in Farnham Maltings in Surrey. There’s over 80 exhibitors, craft shops and workshops and all the other lovely things you’d expect at a woolly festival! I’ve never actually had the opportunity to attend yet but I’ve heard only good things about Unravel!

You know me, I do love a bit of a crochet challenge, so when I saw the call for designers to enter their design competition on Instagram I thought I’d give it a bash!

My idea for the scarf comes from my own, and I’m guessing many other’s experience, of yarn shows. You know the times where you see some gorgeous yarn that you fall completely in love with so you have to take it home with you. But you didn’t have a plan when you bought it and now you don’t know what to make with just one skein!

Such as this gorgeous handyed skein that I had of Devon Sun Yarns … That’s where the Waverly Kisses Scarf comes in!

I’m really chuffed with how this design turned out. It was one of those that just worked from conception to completion just how I wanted it too and I love everything about it.

I Like Crochet Collections

Looking for some projects that are fast and rewarding? I’ve got a series of new one-ball crochet patterns out now in the I Like Crochet Collections. Including a cowl, a Tunisian crochet glasses case and some cute baby booties!

If you’ve not heard of I Like Crochet Collections before it’s part of the I Like Crochet Network for crochet enthusiasts, and the same people that publish the popular I Like Crochet e-magazine. Based in the US the patterns on the site are written in US terminology, but if you are happy to convert patterns then there’s a wealth of designs (and great designers).

Now do you have a ball of chunky weight yarn sadly languishing in your stash and you don’t know what to make with it? Then how about the Colbie Cowl…

© I Like Crochet – The One-Skein Collection

This simple cowl takes advantage of a fun stitch and lets the yarn do the rest of the talking! It’s great for variegated yarn for a subtle finish or you could go bold with a block colour to create a real statement piece.

You can find this cowl under collections in the One Skein Collection, it’s a great project for beginners and a fast make for more experienced crocheters!

I loved the challenge of coming up with some patterns that use one ball of yarn or less! I also created the Siesta Sunglasses Case available in The Beach Collection. This fun little case is worked in Tunisian crochet which makes it the perfect sunglasses protector at the beach.

The tight stitches paired with its drawstring closure ensure your sunnies stay safe and sand free! I always forget how I enjoy working on a Tunisian Crochet project until I do it! Do you like Tunisian crochet? I feel like I’ve got lots more to discover there…

And finally, my favourite of the collections, are the Sleepy Unicorn Booties which are part of the The Best Baby Crochet Patterns Collection. My brother had not long had a new baby girl and she was definitely the inspiration behind these.
