25% Discount | Pattern Release: Sweet Treat Eaters

2020 was rather a strange year wasn’t it, it was a year when many of the things we’d perhaps been looking forward to, like occasions or events had to be cancelled, and that includes one of my favourite places to visit – The Crochet Sanctuary.

Image of two little crochet monster pots, the sweet treat eaters, surrounded by lots of sweets and candy

Most of the Sanctuary dates of 2020 had to be postponed however, in-between lockdowns, there was one Sanctuary that I was able to attend in the October and it turned out to be a bit more than originally planned! When the lovely Lisa & Lynda asked me if I could be the stand in designer (instead of Den Dennis who was stuck in Amsterdam) of course I was happy to help. It made sense, I would have been attending anyway (as a guest) and I’m lucky enough to live about 40 minutes away from the venue.

So I put together a fun Halloween themed design which I’ve just realised I never got around to formatting to share with you – until now! Allow me to introduce the Sweet Treat Eaters; Lisa Lollipop and Lynda Liquorice!

The Sweet Treat Eaters are a pair of monsters that never miss a trick (or treat) when it comes to candy! They love it, and will often be found cramming as much into their mouths as they possibly can – these guys should defiantly be handled with scare!

These cute little monsters are a combination of storage and amigurumi pattern that would make a fun addition to Halloween or for a little (or big) monsters bedroom.

The pattern is now available, from all my usual pattern stores, for you to make your own monsters.

I used a combination of yarns for my monsters. I used Scheepjes Stone Washed XL for the main body and tail with a 5mm / US size H hook (so that works up quite quickly) then I used Scheepjes Catona, with a 3mm / US size approx. D3, hook in complimentary colours for the other features.

The pattern is 5 pages long and it’s written, as usual, in both UK and US terms.  It was nice to see the  folks at the Crochet Sanctuary who were both intermediate and beginners to amigurumi enjoying the pattern. Though if you are a beginner and would like to give this pattern a go you might want to familiarise yourself with working in rounds in the amigurumi style before you start.

If you fancy 25% off the pattern price just enter the coupon code: PUMPKINNICE on either Ravelry or Etsy until 31 October 2022 to save.

As always my time at the Crochet Sanctuary was wonderful weekend where I was able to catch up with old friends and make some new ones! If you are looking for a weekend of yarn, crochet and just pure wonderfulness then I can’t recommend the The Crochet Sanctuary enough! I’m looking forward to my next visit as a guest this October – I can’t wait!

If you like this pattern please give it a love, or leave a comment or review on the platform you got it from when you’ve made it up, as a small biz all support and shares are very much appreciated! I hope you’ll share any finished photos with me on social media (facebooktwitter or instagram) or as a project on Ravelry – I love to see what you make! And finally you may wish to make sure you are signed up to blog (below) and / or my mailing list to get a reminder when new blog posts, discounts or new pattern releases are available.

Until next time folks! Happy hooking and keep calm and crochet on my friends xx

NEW Mini Crochet Kit | Teeny Tiny Pumpkin Set

You’re pumpkin-dding me! There’s a new mini crochet kit in town, and I think it’s gourd-geous!

Image of the teeny tiny pumpkin crochet kit available from KCACOUKDesigns Etsy shop

You may remember that I’ve been releasing some mini crochet kits (along with a big kit) because I find them really fun to design – and you seem to enjoy working on projects in a kit. This time I’ve created a set of teeny tiny pumpkins, because who doesn’t love a crochet pumpkin at this time of year!

Don’t let big carved pumpkins have all the autumn decor fun – crochet some extremely cute tiny ones to have on display instead! Big enough for all three, slightly different sized, pumpkins to fit in one hand, they will make beautiful additions to your autumn decor.

❤️ Add the Teeny Tiny Pumpkin Set to your favourites on Ravelry ❤️

A hand holds three, slightly different sized, crochet pumpkins.

Each kit contains 4 mini balls of Scheepjes Catona, the pattern, enough stuffing for all the pumpkins and a cute pumpkin charm stitch marker all wrapped up in a small reusable organza bag! There’s also the optional tool extra of picking up a premium bamboo 3mm hook (US approx. size D/3) if you don’t have one of those to hand.

Pattern is written in UK terms, but shipping is available to anywhere. If you are not sure about UK terms then you might find my blog post British vs. American Crochet Terms: What’s the Difference? helpful.

These are so fun to make, you can make the whole set in pretty much a day, so there’s still time to hook up a set to compliment your Autumn decor. So why not treat yourself, or the crochet lover in your life – the kit would make a perfect present for birthdays or Christmas as a little gift for crafty friends and family.

I hope you’ll share your WIP and finished project photos with me on social media (facebooktwitter or instagram) or as a project on Ravelry – I love to see what you make! And finally you may wish to sign up to blog (below) and / or my mailing list to get a reminder when new blog posts, discounts or new pattern releases are available.

Pattern Re-Release | Life-sized Chunky Pumpkins

As you know I’m slowly working my way through old Deramores patterns to add to my pattern shops and as we are now most definitely in pumpkin season there no more appropriate time for me to re-release my Chunky Pumpkins.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

This time of year I can’t help but make some pumpkins (watch this space for some more coming soon!), and I don’t think I’m the only one, if you happen to be scrolling through Instagram you’ll have potentially seen all the lovely pumpkins that have been made.

Different from other pumpkin patterns I’ve made before, these next pumpkins are pretty much life sized! The biggest measures in with a diameter of 62cm and the smallest still has a substantial 43cm diameter.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

My chunky pumpkins are made from, well you’ve probably guessed it, chunky (bulky) yarn and as a consequence they don’t take long to make. They also have the most fabulous texture too, which was something I’d not tried before with other pumpkins I’ve designed before – the end result I think is very pleasing.

The yarn alternative I have suggested for the Chunky Pumpkins (instead of the original Deramores Chunky) is Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky which is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that comes in 100g balls (136m / 149yds). I used a 6.5mm (US size K) hook and the colours I’ve suggested are Blood Orange (319) and Coffee Bean (310). Other than that you would need some stitch markers, 400g of toy filler, pins and a yarn needle to sew all the pieces together.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

The 3 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. It’s classed as an “beginner” pattern which I’m hoping anyone new to crochet, along with more experienced crocheters will enjoy.

The pattern is now available from my usual pattern stores for you to make your own version at the links below:

This pattern, along with all of my Halloween designs (some below coming this week), have 25% off until 31 October with code: PUMPKINNICE on both Etsy and Ravelry – so go grab yourself a treat!

Please bear with me with regards to re-releasing the old Deramores patterns, it can take up to a whole day or two to reformat and upload to various shops, so it will be a work in progress – though do let me know if there’s a pattern you’d really love to see come next and I’ll see what I can do!

Until next time folks! Happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on my friends xx

Pattern Re-Release | Relaxing Ralph

Well it’s only taken me a couple of years…but I’ve finally got around to sorting out my Relaxing Ralph pattern. And what prompted me is today (1 Sept) is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, a fun holiday that honours the gingers of the feline world.

It put me in mind of little Ralph; who you may recognise as a pattern I designed in September 2018 for The Crochet Sanctuary (read about it here). He’s a sleepy little ginger kitty who loves nothing more than kicking back for a nap in his hammock (details on how to make his hammock is also included in the pattern).

Well at the time I was sure I’d released the pattern in my usual format, in UK and US terms, and with availability in each of my pattern stores – but it turns out that I’ hadn’t! However I’m now delighted to announce that I’ve rectified that situation, and you can now pick up the PDF pattern via the links below.

The pattern is 5 pages long and I’d suggest it’s a patterns suitable for anyone with a bit of experience of working in the round and in making amigurumi.

For my kitty I used 1 ball of Scheepjes Stonewashed XL (Aran/ Worsted Weight) in Jasper (Shade 849), 1 ball of Scheepjes Stonewashed (Sport Weight) in Moon Stone (Shade 801 and 1 ball of Scheepjes Catona (4ply / Fingering Weight) in Powder Pink (Shade 238) with a 4.5mm (US size 7) and a 3mm (Closest US size D/3 or C/2).

If you do make up a Relaxing Ralph I hope you will share pictures of your cat’s on socials using the hashtag #kcacouk so I can see and share your wonderful work.

Pattern Re-Release | Woodgreen Puppy

Happy International Dogs Day! Today I’m able to share with you a fun puppy pattern; Parsley the Woodgreen Puppy!

You may recognise Parsley from a past collaboration with Deramores back in April 2021. With the closure of Deramores (in Feb 2022) I’ve been slowly working my way through any associated patterns to add to my pattern shops, however as this was a pattern was originally designed in collaboration with a charity it’s been a bit of a different task to sort out.

However I’m now absolutely delighted to announce that the lovely folks at LoveCrafts are going to host the pattern for the Woodgreen, The Animal Charity – with 100% of sales going to support pets looking for their forever homes!

© Woodgreen Charity 2022

Wood Green is a pet charity that makes a difference to the lives of pets and people across the UK.  As a charity they help rehome pets into loving homes and also educate and supports pet owners, so that they can enjoy a mutually rewarding and happy relationship with their pets.

The charity helps thousands of dogs, cats and small pets, many who have been abandoned and neglected, to have a second chance at happiness – and no animals are ever turned away!

If you are a crafter you can help support this charity by creating the Parsley the puppy with the purchase of the digital pattern (approx. £3.60 / $4.24 at time of posting).

💚 You can download the puppy pattern here 💚

© Woodgreen Charity 2022

For my original puppy I used Deramores Studio DK in Ebony, Oatmeal, White, Chocolate and Peridot with a 3.25mm (US size D/3) hook, however you could easily substitute with Paintbox Simply DK in Pure Black (101), Taupe (75), Champagne White (102), Lime Green (128) and Coffee Bean (110). The finished result is a lovely cuddly puppy that you can make for yourself or a loved one.

Pattern Re-Release | Bexley the Bunny Rabbit

As you know I’m slowly working my way through old Deramores patterns to add to my pattern shops. As we are moving towards Spring, and an Easter-ish sort of time I thought I’d continue with the rabbit theme – so the next pattern that I have been able to re-format is Bexley the Bunny Rabbit.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

Bexley is a carrot farmer who is quite ear-resistable in his cute dungarees with his freshly picked carrot from his bumper crop.

As I originally made my bunny out of Deramores yarn, which, although LoveCrafts are selling stock they have acquired, they cannot guarantee future yarn availability. I therefore made the decision to offer alternative yarn in the pattern which mean the suggested yarn colours may vary from colours shown in the photographs.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

The yarn suggestions I chose are for the cuddle bunny I believe are very close alternatives; I chose Paintbox Simply DK which is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that comes in 100g (276m) – so a bit longer in length than Deramores DK, which I used with a 3.25mm (US size D/3) hook.

For your Bunny you only need 1 ball of Paper White (Shade 100) and a small amount of 1 ball of Bubblegum Pink (Shade 150). Other than that you would need some 9mm safety eyes, stitch markers, toy filler, pins and a yarn needle to sew all the pieces together.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

Bexley is now ready to be ad-hop-ted by you! As it’s coming up to Easter you might be thinking about making some bunnies – though this little fellow would be a perfect for animal loving friends and family, or just as a lovely Spring project.

The 7 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. It’s classed as an “intermediate” pattern as it might be a bit tricky for a new crocheter without an understanding of crocheting in the round and putting together and shaping amigurumi.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

The pattern is now available from my usual pattern stores for you to make your own version at the links below:

As you know I’m slowly working my way through old Deramores patterns to add to my pattern shops. The next pattern on the list, that I have been able to re-format, is my sweet Cuddle Bunny.

Are you looking for some-bunny to love? You’d better hop to it! This super cute bunny is just waiting for their new best friend to bring them a carrot and a snuggle!

As it’s coming up to Easter you might be thinking about making some bunnies – though this little fellow would be a perfect little keepsake for a child’s birthday or christening or just as a lovely Spring project.

The 4 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. Although I’ve classed it as an “easy” pattern perfect for a beginner crocheter, who has an understanding of crocheting in the round, and would like to make some amigurumi.

Pattern Re-Release | Draco the Dragon

You’re probably aware that Deramores closed its doors quite quickly at the beginning of February 2022. Designers were told, at the same time as customers, that LoveCrafts would be acquiring some of the assets of Deramores, including Deramores-branded yarns and patterns.

I’m excited to say that LoveCrafts have given pattern rights back to relevant designers, which is fab as it means you’ll still be able to get the patterns you love. The first pattern that I have been able to re-format is Draco the Dragon.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

You may remember that Draco was originally released on Friday 23 April (St George’s Day) in 2021. Draco the Dragon is an adorable baby dragon, and of course he’s really fired up to meet you!

As I originally made my dragon out of Deramores yarn, which, although LoveCrafts are selling stock they have acquired, they cannot guarantee future yarn availability. I therefore made the decision to offer alternative yarn in the pattern which mean the yarn suggestion colours may vary from colours shown in the photographs.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

The yarn suggestions I chose are for the dragon I believe are close alternatives. I chose Paintbox Simply DK which is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that comes in 100g (276m) – so a bit longer in length than Deramores DK.

For your dragon you would need 1 ball of Grass Green (Shade 129) and 1 ball of Racing Green (Shade 127) along with a small amount of black yarn for embroidering features. Other than that you would need some 12mm safety eyes, stitch markers, toy filler, pins and a yarn needle for sewing the pieces together.

© Keep Calm and Crochet On UK 2022

The finished result I hope you’ll think is kind of roar-some! I can’t wait to see some of the dragons you make! I’m kind of hoping someone will make a purple version!

The 6 page pattern comes in either UK or US terms with full descriptions of any stitch abbreviations. Although I’ve classed it as an “intermediate” pattern I would suggest an advanced beginner, who has an understanding of crocheting in the round, would have no problem hooking up a dragon.

The pattern is now available from my usual pattern stores for you to make your own version at the links below:

Deramores | Gingerbread Man

Tis’ the season for Gingerbread Men and there’s a new crochet pattern and yarn pack in my Deramores shop that you don’t have to worry about going out of date!

© Deramores 2021

I’ve got a bit of a thing about Gingerbread men – I just think they are totally Chrismassy! Whether it’s building a Gingerbread House or making the little men themselves, it’s something that always has a place in our house during the holidays.

This weekend was National Gingerbread Decorating Day apparently (usually the second Saturday in December) so it seems totally appropriate for me to share with you my fully decorated ginger guy!

© Deramores 2021

I made my Gingerbread Man with the rather apply named Deramores Studio DK Gingerbread! I also used a small amount of Frost, Peridot and Ruby for his frosting, buttons and bowtie all with a 3.25mm hook. The pattern is available as just the digital download or as a kit which you can pick up here.

🎄 Add the pattern to your favourites on Ravelry 🎄

When he’s finished he stands approx. 30cm tall – perfect to use as a stocking filler or as a festive ornament on your shelf. So run run as fast as you can to Deramores to catch him up today.

If you were looking for more general amigurumi designs to make then you can find several different patterns in my Deramores Designer Shop. Or if you are looking for Christmas makes in general I’ve put together a bundle on Ravelry with links to all my free and paid for seasonal patterns.

I hope you’ll share your photos with me on social media (facebooktwitter or instagram) or as a project on Ravelry – I love to see what you make! And finally you may wish to make sure you are signed up to blog (below) and / or my mailing list to get a reminder when new blog posts, discounts or new pattern releases are available.
