Hey lovelies, how are you doing? Well yesterday we went to our local Christmas Tree switch on and as there’s now less than 6 weeks before the big day, I’ll confess that my thoughts are now turned towards the festive season.
With that in mind let me introduce you to Razzle and Dazzle – two cheeky little elves who have hopped straight out of the pages of Crochet Now Issue 127. With twinkling eyes and vibrant colourful outfits, theyโre the perfect festive companions to add to your handmade dรฉcor or to surprise someone special this season.

Meet the Elves
Razzle (in the blue) is the daring dreamer, always leaping from one snow-covered ledge to the next, while Dazzle (in the purple) is the clever tinkerer who loves to hide surprise candy canes and sparkly baubles around the room. Together they bring mischief, magic and merriment wherever they go – and now you can crochet them for your own festive adventures.
For both of my elves I usedย Ricorumi DK, one of my all-time favourite yarns. This 100% cotton yarn comes in handy 25g balls (57.5m) and is available in a wide range of options. I also used some Ricorumi Twinkly Twinkly which is also cotton yarn but includes a glittering thread because you’ve got to have a bit of sparkle at Christmas I feel.
These elves would make wonderful gifts for children (or big kids!) and could be a delightful addition to festive dรฉcor – whether perched on a mantel or tucked into a stocking. They also make a joyful โcrochet duoโ project: you can change colours, mix and match accessories, and give each elf their own personality.
Where to Find the Pattern
Crochet Now issue 127 is available in shops now or you can grab a digital version fromย Craftworld.com. This issue has 66 festive patterns inside including a very fun disco Santa and

Until next time โ happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on, my friends! xx

You may remember that back in December 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Longest Yarn Exhibition exhibition for the first time – and I was absolutely blown away by it. The creativity, craftsmanship, and sheer scale of that original installation were unlike anything Iโd ever seen before. So when I heard there would be a second instalment, I knew I had to try and visit. And what better day to share it with you than Armistice Day, when we all pause to remember the bravery and resilience of those who lived through war.
Following the success of the original exhibition, The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War builds upon the same heartfelt storytelling – this time focusing on what life was like in Britain between 3 September 1939, when war was declared, and 8 May 1945, VE Day.
The exhibition features 80 brand-new panels of โwool art,โ each one metre long, depicting key moments and experiences from the Second World War. From The Kingโs Speech to D-Day, The Blitz, the Home Guard, the Womenโs Land Army, rationing, and much more, each piece offers a vivid, tactile snapshot of wartime Britain – all told through the medium of yarn.
Once again, I found myself completely mesmerised by the artistry on display. Every stitch, every colour choice, every carefully rendered detail spoke volumes about the love, dedication, and skill poured into this project.
Accompanying the panels is an extraordinary set of eight life-size wool figures, collectively titled โArmy of Duty Calls.โ These represent the many faces of service and sacrifice during the war; from a Land Girl to a Spitfire Pilot, each crafted with astonishing detail and care. Standing among them feels almost like stepping back in time. I was particularly blown away with the piper Bill Millin, the attention to detail was just astonishing!
I could easily have spent hours photographing each panel – but instead, Iโve chosen a small selection of images to share with you here, to give you just a taste of this unforgettable experience.
The level of detail in each yarn creation was truly astounding. Guided by historians to ensure historical accuracy, every scene was thoughtfully chosen by its creator to tell the story of this momentous period in history, each one unique, heartfelt, and crafted with exceptional care.
From evacuees and bombed houses to families sheltering in the Underground and incredibly detailed machinery, every panel captured such poignant moments in yarn that it completely blew my mind how thoughtfully each one had been constructed. It was so clear how much love and effort had gone into every piece. I couldnโt help but marvel at how each crocheter and knitter had managed to convey such depth and emotion through yarn – itโs nothing short of genius.
As I mentioned in my original blog post, the exhibition actually began as an idea by Tansy Forster, who was inspired by the post box toppers and yarn bombing events seen around the UK. She initially planned to create a small topper for her garden wall in Houesville to mark the 80th anniversary, but after chatting with a few friends and fellow knitters, the idea quickly grew and grew!
After touring the UK and Ireland, drawing more than 250,000 visitors, the original Longest Yarn is now on display in the United States for a year-long exhibition. I doubt Tansy ever imagined it would evolve into such an incredible worldwide exhibition, let alone lead to a whole second instalment. Personally, Iโm hoping thereโll be a third one in the future!
As before what truly made the exhibition so special was the incredible sense of community woven through every crocheted and knitted stitch. Each panel told its own story, lovingly created by individuals and groups who poured their hearts into preserving this important part of our history. Itโs a beautiful reminder of how creativity not only connects us to the past but also inspires those who will carry these stories forward into the future.
The Longest Yarn 2 exhibition is currently touring Great Britain and Northern Ireland and will continue through to the end of 2027. Itโs free to attend, ensuring that everyone has the chance to experience this remarkable creative tribute.
However, the project receives no formal funding and relies entirely on public generosity to keep it on the road. A ยฃ5 donation is suggested, which helps cover essential travel and setup costs – a small price to pay to support such a meaningful and inspiring initiative.
If you get the chance to see it for yourself, I thoroughly recommend it. Itโs a moving, beautifully made reminder of our shared history โ and a celebration of the power of art, craft, and community spirit.
Just a little side note. As we remember those who served, Iโm also continuing to raise money for the Royal British Legion through sales of my poppy crochet pattern. Itโs a small way to give back and to honour those who gave so much – and Iโm so grateful to everyone whoโs supported this cause so far.
If youโd like to crochet your own poppy and help support the Poppy Appeal, you can find all the original details (and the pattern link) in my post here: ๐ Pattern Re-Release: Poppy Appeal
Until next time folks! Happy hooking, keep calm and crochet on my friends xx
Hey lovelies, hope you are all well. Bit of advance warning, I’m going to be mentioning the ‘C’ word in this post. I know, I know – but itโs the beginning of November (already!), and us crocheters need a bit of prep time, am I right? So without further ado I’m delighted to share with you today a new pattern featured in Simply Crochet issue 168. Allow me to introduce Argyll the Reindeer – a charming little character whoโs bound to bring some handmade holiday cheer to your hook this season.
Argyll is more than just a Christmas ornament; heโs a handmade friend who gives your home that warm, cosy holiday spirit. With his antlers, sweet face, and stout little body, heโs ideal as a hearth decoration or a whimsical gift for someone who adores handmade touches.
Sometimes a tiny decoration just wonโt do am I right? You want something that really makes a statement. Standing proudly at around 36cm (14in) tall, Argyll is the reindeer for the job!
Argyll is a lovely easy make for adventurous beginners – the pattern uses simple stitches and clear shaping, so you can build confidence as you go. The only slightly fiddly part is his little scarf, but donโt let that put you off! Once you get your hook moving, it quickly comes together and adds such a charming finishing touch to his look. Before you know it, youโll have a reindeer thatโs ready to dash straight into your festive dรฉcor.
I used Yarnspirationsย Caron Simply Softย Aran (170.1gย /ย 288m.ย 100%ย Acrylic) in Feathered Gray, Pagoda and Plum Perfect with a bit of Yarnspirationsย Caron Simply Soft Partyย Aran (85g / 150m.1%โฏMetalized Polyester, 99%โฏAcrylic)ย Fuchsia Sparkle – because what’s Christmas if you can’t have a bit of glitz!
Then the only other things you need for Argyll the Reindeer are:
Issue 168 of Simply Crochet magazine is available in print via UK newsagents and craft shops, or you can obtain a digital copy through the Simply Crochet website or apps as aย digital issue.
I absolutely canโt wait to see your versions of Argyll the Reindeer. Whether heโs classic brown, snowy white, or something completely offbeat – donโt forget to tag me on social media so I donโt miss them.

The days are getting shorter, the evenings cooler, and Iโm absolutely ready to pull up a favourite chair, wrap myself in yarny goodness and indulge in that cosy, content-feeling known as hygge. If you know me, you know I believe in the power of hooking to help make the world slow down for a short time.
Thatโs why Iโm so excited to join this yearโs Hygge blog-hop, curated by Green Fox Farm Designs, to celebrate all things handcrafted comfort. The hop is here to emphasise the warmth, the calm, the slower rhythms of life, and of course the loveliest crochet patterns to match.
Why Hygge + Crochet = Perfect Match
The word hygge (Scandinavian in origin) evokes that feeling of cosiness, comfort and contentment, and what better way to honour it than with a crochet hook in hand, yarn under your fingers, and the world outside slipping away in mindful quiet as you stitch. Itโs perfect for this season when blankets, cushions, cowls and warm wraps become our friends.
For three weeks we will be hopping between different crochet blogs and different designers to gather up a whole lot of satisfying makes and (for a limited time only) free crochet patterns.
Starting 3rd November, weโll spend three cosy weeks with one shared hygge crochet pattern each day from a different designer. Patterns will range from the soft, soothing, and useful. Think squishy blankets, textured scarves, warm beanies, amigurumi, mug rugs, and other little comforts that help you slow down and breathe during the holiday rush. Every day, the crochet hygge pattern will be available as a free PDF download for 24 hours only.
How the event works:
Starting on 3rd November 2025 go to the main roundup post and scroll to today’s date.
Follow the instructions to get today’s blog post link and / or coupon code. The most current featured design will be added to the bottom every morning. This way it stays in chronological order and itโs easy to find the current pattern feature.
Go to the relevant blog and scroll down the designer’s post until you see the download button.
And of course there is a special Hygge Bundle where you can get all 24 patterns for only ยฃ9.20 / $12!! Thatโs 90% off and less than 40p / $0.50 cents per pattern! The collection is only available until 26 November 2025, so donโt wait.ย CLICK BELOWย to purchase the event bundle that you can download to your favourite device. Youโll then be able to print out individual patterns as your convenience.
Please make sure to share your appreciation with all the amazing designers by giving them a ‘heart’ on Ravelry and / or if you like their stuff, a follow on socials – every little interaction really helps us as designers.
Whether youโre diving into your holiday makes or simply craving a snug new project for those frosty evenings by the fire, the Cosy Crochet Hygge Blog Hop has something special for you! Check in each day to catch every limited-time pattern and deal before itโs gone.

Time for a September update on my 2025 Crochet Book Blanket project. I canโt believe weโve already reached the โberโ months! After a wonderful summer filled with family time and plenty of opportunities to read, Iโm excited to settle into a new season of page-turning. Who else is ready for cosy reading sessions, whether itโs curled up in bed or tucked into a comfy chair with a blanket?
Pin for later:
That said I’ve had to hustle a little to catch up with my squares this month as we are moving into the busiest period of the year for me – but I’m still going!
The Vision for the Book Afghan
To maintain cohesion, Iโve used the same block pattern for the entire afghan (grab the free pattern here), working with yarn from my stash and selecting colours that reflect the bookโs cover design. The ultimate goal? A warm, meaningful blanket that doubles as a literary keepsake.
Synopsis: A slow-burning, beautifully written piece of historical fiction, Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah follows two estranged sisters who, after their fatherโs death, finally begin to understand their cold, enigmatic mother. Through the unfolding of a haunting fairy tale rooted in war-torn Leningrad, long-buried family secrets come to light, reshaping everything they thought they knew.
Synopsis: This was such a unique book with prose interspersed with comic book strip which I thought was a really interesting way to tell the story. When fourteen-year-old Trixie Stone accuses her ex-boyfriend of raping her, her tightly knit family is thrown into crisis. Her father, comic-artist Daniel, facing dark echoes from his past, and her mother, Laura, a college professor hiding her own affair, both scramble to protect her, even as the worst happens and the police begin to suspect even their own daughter. Itโs a gripping family drama about how far parents will go, and what happens when the line between right and revenge blurs.
Synopsis: In this instalment, DI Helen Grace faces perhaps her most destructive foe yet – a cold-blooded arsonist whose fiery rampage across the city seems designed not just to kill, but to terrify and obliterate. As homes go up in flames, lives are shattered and the pressure mounts. Helen must navigate bureaucratic roadblocks, mounting public fear and her own inner turmoil to stop the blaze before it consumes more innocents. I’m enjoying working my way through this series, like the others it’s was fast paced with a compelling storyline.
Synopsis: This book had such a promising premise, I enjoyed it but felt like the pacing did slow down in the middle though it was tided up nicely at the end. A seemingly ordinary domestic flight turns unforgettable when a quiet woman dubbed โThe Death Ladyโ stands up mid-air and predicts the manner and age of death for her fellow passengers. As her chilling forecasts begin to come true months later, each passenger is forced to confront fate, free will and how much control we really have over our lives.
Synopsis: Molly Grayโs life is about to take a dramatic turn. As Head Maid and newly installed Special Events Manager at the grand Regency Grand Hotel, sheโs gearing up for her wedding and ready for good things when a reality-TV treasure-hunting show arrives. What seems like a fun appraisal of her grandmotherโs trinkets turns into a revelation: a priceless heirloom, an explosion of media attention, and then the prized object vanishes in a daring art heist. Molly and her friends must dive into the past โ aided by her grandmotherโs hidden diary โ to uncover long-buried secrets, reveal the truth of the theft, and protect everything sheโs built. Whilst I really loved Molly the Maid from the first book in this latest book I felt that her character (and the other characters in the book) were becoming more caricatures of their former selves – as a consequence I found it a little hard to stay engaged with the story.
Synopsis: Three women, Margot, Anna and Liv, live on the same suburban street, each hiding secrets darker than their glossy exteriors. The novel opens on Bonfire Night with someone bound and gagged within a blazing bonfire, then rewinds eleven months to show how their lives spiralled into murder, betrayal and revenge. With escalating tension, shifting perspectives and unrelenting twists, it asks: who did the killing โฆ and who got killed first? After a great opening chapter I found the intermittent chapters in italics a bit confusing but it does all come together in the end. Not my favourite Marrs book, but a good read all the same.
Synopsis: Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson discovers heโs no ordinary kid but a demigod – the son of the sea-god Poseidon, when heโs accused of stealing the powerful lightning bolt of Zeus. With the help of his satyr friend Grover Underwood and the daughter of the goddess Athena, Annabeth Chase, Percy embarks on a high-stakes quest across America, battling monsters and unravelling ancient myths in a modern setting – all to clear his name and prevent a war among the gods. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. As someone who has always loved Greek and Roman myths it was a really good romp of a story – I’ll probably continue reading the rest of the series at some point.

Iโm so excited to share my latest free pattern, created in collaboration with Utopia Crafts – a wonderful yarn company based in Exeter, Devon.
Established in 2019, Utopia Crafts have developed a wide range of yarns in diverse colours and weights, all thoughtfully created to meet the needs of their customers.
For this project, I fell head over heels with their Country Wool Aran – a 80% Acrylic, 20% Wool yarn spun in a classic Aran (worsted) weight. Itโs beautifully soft yet structured, and I knew straight away it would be perfect for a neutral pumpkin idea I had.
I used a single ball of the Country Wool Aran with a 5mm (US size H/8) hook and it makes quite a large sized pumpkin. The finished size of mine was 57 cm [22.4″] diameter x 11.5 cm [4.5″] high.
While bright orange will always have a special place in autumn dรฉcor, neutral tones, think soft creams, oatmeals, greys, and taupes to bring a timeless, rustic elegance to your home. The great thing is that those colours will work beautifully with most interior style, and theyโre subtle enough to keep on display well beyond October.
Pin it for Later:
And because itโs an Aran weight yarn, this pattern works up super quickly, you can make a pumpkin (or a whole patch of them!) in no time at all. Itโs the ideal project for a cosy autumn evening. Beginners will hopefully find this pattern approachable, while more seasoned crocheters can appreciate the opportunity to relax with a project that doesnโt require intense concentration.
That said there are loads of beautiful shades of Country Wool Aran so you could make pumpkins any colours you would like – I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Iโm so excited to re-introduce you with a design that I made 4 years ago now – the Patchwork Braid Pillow! Whether youโre sprucing up a favourite armchair or adding a finishing touch to your sofa, this cushion cover is all about texture, charm, and that handmade feel.
Pin for Later:
Originally published in Simply Crochet, Issue 117 as the Cabled Cushion, this design has reclaimed its full title, the Patchwork Braid Pillow, because the name captures both the braided stitchwork and the patchwork-inspired block play that define the piece.
This crocheted cushion cover combines braided stitches and patchwork-style twisted blocks for a look thatโs both timeless and on-trend. Swap in soft neutrals for a calm, cosy vibe, or go bold with contrasting brights – either way, youโll end up with a statement piece thatโs uniquely yours.
๐งถ Why I Love This Design
Room to Customize – Want it square or rectangular? Bigger or smaller? All one side or both? The pattern lets you adapt.
Texture & Depth – The braided crochet stitches bring a sculptural 3D effect, catching light and shadow in a way flat crochet panels just canโt.
Colour Play – The patchwork-style shifts give you freedom to mix and match โ use leftovers, go tonal, or make it bold.
Function & Form – Itโs not just pretty โ itโs built to last. The stitches are sturdy and the structure holds up well to use and gives real cushion-y comfort.

Hey there, crochet friends! Iโm so excited to re-introduce the Perfectly Plaid Basket to you. The perfect way to add instant charm and elegance to your living room – with a cosy, colour-worked creation.
Pin for Later:
The Perfectly Plaid Basket was originally featured in the October 2021 issue of I Like Crochet magazine as a way to help keep your home feeling snug and stylish.
This classic crochet basket features bold buffalo plaid and sleek leather handles, making it as stylish as it is practical. Whether youโre corralling washcloths on the bathroom counter, stashing yarn by your favourite chair, or filling it with pinecones for a rustic centrepiece, this basket brings cosy lodge vibes to any space.
ยฉ I Like Crochet 2021
The design itself is a simple combination of stitches, however I wanted to play around with the traditional buffalo plaid โsquaresโ design. I still wanted it to be recognisable as โplaidโ but I wanted the design to by more inspired by than directly copied. So I decided to go with repeating rectangles that I would create by colour changing as I worked.
This basket is made by holding two strands of Rico Design Creative Cotton Aran yarn together, with a 5.5 mm (US size I) hook, creating a sturdy, durable fabric, and is worked in continuous rounds. The only tricky part is managing multiple colours at once, but once you find your rhythm, it all comes together beautifully.
This pattern will be available with a 50% discount for 24hrs (1pm to 1pm GMT / 8am to 8am EST) on Tuesday 7 October 2025ย as part of the Fireside Comforts Blog Hop.
